The Need

🍽️ Why We Serve: The Truth About Hunger

Food insecurity isn’t just a statistic—it’s a daily struggle, a public health crisis, and a profound injustice.

A food-insecure household lacks the resources to provide enough nutritious food for every member. It means skipping meals, choosing between groceries and rent, and living without the fuel needed to thrive. And it’s everywhere.

Nutrition security goes deeper—it’s about consistent access to foods and beverages that nourish, prevent disease, and support well-being. Without it, health declines, potential is stifled, and communities suffer.

📊 The Reality in Numbers

  • 47+ million Americans face hunger—including 1 in 5 children
  • Every U.S. county experiences food insecurity
  • In 2023, over 50 million people turned to food assistance
  • Meanwhile, 40% of U.S. food ends up in landfills

In Albany County:

  • 1 in 9 adults are food insecure
  • 1 in 7 children go without enough to eat
  • 30% of residents live below the poverty line

💛 Our Commitment

At Loaves and Fishes Outreach Ministries, we believe that access to food is a human right. Hunger robs people of dignity, health, and opportunity. We serve because we know that no one can reach their full potential on an empty stomach.

Through meals, pantry bags, and compassionate care, we stand in the gap—offering food, dignity and belonging.
